ABOUT US
Background
In 1995
community residents embarked on a yearlong planning process that ultimately
constructed the final conception of North Capitol Collaborative, Inc.
(NCCI). NCCI was in response to the alarming rate at which children were
placed in a system that was ill prepared to handle the vast numbers of
children removed from their families and homes for neglect and abuse issues.
Hence,
in 1996, NCCI commenced providing services on behalf of Child and Family
Services Agency (CFSA) to residents, families, and children that resided
within NCCI’s serving territory. North Capitol Collaborative opened its’
doors due to the persistent diligence of several community partners’
dedication to humanizing the District Government service delivery system for
children and families.
The
final formulation of the North Capitol Collaborative exemplifies many years
of work on the part of involved community leaders striving to augment the
community awareness of indicators of abuse and neglect and the development
of partnerships with community service providers and residents to respond to
the needs of its’ own children and families.
Initially, NCCI operated under the fiscal control of the Center City
Community Corporation (4 C’s). The relationship continued until June 2000.
Effective July 2000, NCCI obtained its’ own 501
©
3 status and Incorporated in August 2000.
Mission
The
mission of the North Capitol Collaborative, Inc. (NCCI) is to protect and
care for children, strengthen families and build thriving communities. NCCI
achieves its’ mission through the development of initiatives aimed at
increasing the capacity, participation, and knowledge of the community
through engagement strategies aimed at preventing the removal, abuse and/or
neglect of a child.
The
vision of NCCI is to build healthy families and thriving communities. This
requires the development of collegial partnerships that pave the way for the
creation of programs and services, capable of addressing the myriad of
social problems that affect children and families. Therefore, in addition
to providing services for children and families, the Collaborative works to
develop and enhance relationships with residents, government agencies, and
organizational partners through the creation, enhancement, and integration
of resources, programs, services, and linkages to address family and
community issues.
